KINGSPORT, Tenn. — Travel advisor Amy Provance of Treadway Travel has been selected to participate in the Back to the Beach event held at Sandals Emerald Bay July 14-17.

Participants must meet strict qualifying criteria and demonstrate a commitment to offering their clients premium service in partnership with Sandals and Beaches Resorts in order to be selected, according to a written statement.

Less than 20 travel advisors and agency owners were selected to visit the resort, meet with resort personnel and learn more about the operations.

Thousands of passengers were stranded at airports around the country in the last few weeks as airlines, particularly United, dealing with the fallout from staffing shortfalls among air traffic controllers and summer storms in the Northeast. Confusingly for many passengers, the severe delays and cancellations didn’t necessarily entitle them to compensation from the airlines, because weather and air traffic control delays were seen by the Department of Transportation as largely out of carriers’ control.

That doesn’t mean airlines can’t voluntarily give passengers compensation in those cases, but it’s essentially at the airlines’ discretion.

Over 2 million Muslims will take part in this week’s Hajj pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, as one of the world’s largest religious gatherings returns to full capacity following years of coronavirus restrictions.

The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, and all Muslims are required to undertake it at least once in their lives if they are physically and financially able to do so. For the pilgrims, it is a profound spiritual experience that wipes away sins, brings them closer to God and highlights Muslim unity.

For the Saudi royal family, which captured Mecca in the 1920s, organizing the pilgrimage is a major source of pride and legitimacy. A Central Florida travel agent is concerned with how Royal Caribbean handled a severe storm, saying it could turn passengers away from future trips.

FOX 35 was sent a video from aboard the Independence of the Seas cruise ship last Friday. Passengers on board were caught in a severe thunderstorm, causing damage and forcing people to scramble looking for safety.

Travel experts say passengers put a lot of trust in cruises when booking vacations, and this isn’t how you maintain that trust. In several videos, you can hear everyone screaming and see dozens running trying to find shelter.

The island of Statia has been seeing new buzz of late, buoyed by a new luxury resort and new discoveries about Alexander Hamilton’s life on the island.

Now, Statia is making a new push to court the travel agent business, including a recent initiative that brought town six travel advisors to their land.

The agents immersed themselves in the island’s cultural and natural heritage, including sites like the White Wall, the Golden Rock Resort and the island’s historic downtown.

Startup Trava working on generative AI for travel agents: Travel Weekly

San Francisco-based startup Trava is developing a digital platform for travel advisors that seeks to enhance their productivity in key areas using generative artificial intelligence (AI).

“There are a lot of companies that are now trying to build a chatbot for travel and basically replace the travel agent,” said Trava co-founder and CEO Katka Opocenska. “That is just not going to happen — the quality is not there.”
