The 49ers will travel more miles than all but 1 team this season

The 49ers’ schedule isn’t out yet, but based on their opponents we can already determine that their travel schedule could be a rough one. A chart posted by ESPN’s Adam Schefter shows San Francisco is slated to travel 29,958 miles this season, which is the second-highest number in the NFL behind the Seahawks.

It’s not a huge shock that teams on the coast tend to travel more miles. For the 49ers though they have an unusually robust travel schedule this year thanks to the schedule rotation and their first-place finish in the NFC West last year.

Here’s a look at the full chart via Schefter:

On the 49ers’ schedule are the four NFC East teams, of which they’ll travel to Philadelphia and Washington. They also face the AFC North and travel to Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Thanks to their first-place finish they’ll also head to Minnesota (the NFC North winner) and

Craig Mod: Shining a Light on the Mundane

Craig Mod has been a resident of Japan for over 20 years, writer and photographer for almost as long and a walker for longer. He chooses traveling on foot over trains and pizza toast over (nearly) everything. This all comes together in his book Kissa by Kissa, a fantastic read that I first came across in a tiny kissaten (Japanese-style café) in Hakodate, Hokkaido. And as it turned out, it was placed there by the man himself.

Mod and I dialed in on a Monday morning and spoke about everything from walking to membership programs to the Iwate city of Morioka.

Unconventional Living Through Special Projects

Mod, an accomplished author and writer with bylines in The New York Times, Eaters and The Atlantic, has a candid writing style that reads like a letter from a friend. Filled with observations and anecdotes, his writings bring stories to the

Pearson airport boss promises summer travel season will be ‘better’ than last year

A year after delays at Canada’s busiest travel hub made international headlines, the airport’s top boss promised this summer would be different.

“The anxiety, the uncertainty, the frustration, and the lack of control that was felt by passengers last year is one we will never forget,” Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) President and CEO Deborah Flint said Monday.

“We want Torontonians, Ontarians, and Canadians, and travelers from around the world to know that this summer will be very different and better than summer 2022.”

Staffing will be key to delivering on that promise, Flint said.

This year, there are 10,000 more employees at Toronto Pearson International Airport, which brings the total number of workers to 50,000. Of those new employees, Flint said 130 would be dedicated to busing, baggage handling, and terminal operations.

Baggage systems at the airport, which caused headaches for many passengers last summer, are also now “more

Opinions | You Can Never Be Too Skinny in Japan

As far as I can remember, I would return to Japan from a foreign country and be hit with the same reverse culture shock: everyone here is so darn skinny.

Japanese people being quite thin is no secret, and it’s attributable to Japan’s healthy diet and lifestyle, as well as genetics. With balanced meals consisting of seasonal fish, meats and vegetables, and a habit of walking everywhere in the big cities, it makes Japanese people generally feel lighter than Westerners. What also looms large, though, is the sheer pressure to be thin in Japan. From the sly comments about weight to aesthetic salons in every corner of Tokyo, diet culture can be exhausting and harmful, especially for young women. So, what is the culture around dieting in Japan? And what harm does it cause?

Shortly after news broke Tuesday that Gigi Hadid had been arrested for “possession of marijuana” while visiting the Cayman Islands last week, the model decided to post an Instagram slideshow of herself and a few buds living the high life for the duration of their Caribbean vacation.

Hadid captioned a slideshow brimming with bikini pics and snaps of delicious-looking food with five words that implied the arrest was anything but a buzzkill.

“All’s well that ends well🌅,” she wrote.

A customs screen discovered “marijuana and utensils used for the consumption of marijuana” in Hadid’s luggage shortly after she landed by private aircraft at Owen Roberts International Airport in the Caymans on July 10, according to local news site Cayman Marl Road. The outlet reported that Hadid’s stash was “relatively small” and “seemingly

Tofino man spends nearly 8 years traveling the world without using motorized vehicles

A Tofino man is on the verge of completing an epic odyssey that most of us could only imagine.

Markus Pukonen has spent nearly eight years traveling the world, all without the use of a single motor.

“No, not even an elevator,” he told CHEK News. “When I say I don’t use motorized transportation [it’s true.] I just, I like to be a man of my word. And it’s fun.”

The idea for the trip came to Pukonen while he was fighting forest fires in BC Initially, the idea was to make a film to inspire people to live with a lighter footprint.

The concept sat with him for seven years before it found new urgency.

“My dad called me up and told me he had two weeks to live,” said Pukonen.

“He had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia out of nowhere. And on my way home to see

Top New Music Releases From Japan: June 2023

Some Japanese artists spent the month of June chasing summer hit titles while others were in full rainy season mode. There was new music from the likes of Lausbub, Vlot and Never Young Beach. We also have some forthcoming releases to look forward to as well. Let’s get stuck in.

Albums

Vlot — Who is Vlot

At the start of June, Vlot (pronounced vee-low) released his new album, with a list of collaborators reading like a who’s who of Japanese contemporary rap. Who is Vlot showcases just how influential he is in the rap world. With Kzm, Miyachi and Lex, Vlot is a chameleon when it comes to adapting his style to fit each collaborator.

The opener is his typically heavy sound, with Young Coco’s “Vlot in this Bihhh” taking his voice with minimal effects applied. Skip to “Dirty Diana” with Lex, though, and it’s a different story. Auto-tune to

North Carolina roller coaster closes after discovering crack on pillar

A North Carolina amusement park closed one of its roller coasters Friday after park personnel became aware of a crack on the top of a steel support pillar on the ride, park officials said.

Carowinds said the park’s maintenance team is conducting a “thorough inspection” of the Fury 325 roller coaster and it will remain closed until repairs have been completed, the amusement park said in a statement sent to USA TODAY.

“Safety is our top priority and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our valued guests during this process,” Carowinds said in the statement. “As part of our comprehensive safety protocols, all rides, including Fury 325, undergo daily inspections to ensure their proper functioning and structural integrity.”

Carowinds advertises the Fury 325 ride as the “tallest, fastest, longest giga coaster in North America,” the park says on its website.

Minobusan: A Sacred Mountain and a Peaceful Mountainside Retreat

For over 700 years, worshippers have visited Minobusan, one of Japan’s most sacred mountains. An imposing sanmon gate welcomes visitors to Kuonji, the heartland of Nichiren Buddhism, while the scent of towering cedar trees helps relieve the arduous climb up the 287 “steps of enlightenment” to the temple’s main hall. Guests staying at nearby Kakurinbo, a popular temple lodging, and its sister property, Guest Villa Ebisuya, are encouraged to take this same pilgrimage, if only to savor the view from Kuonji’s extensive grounds and catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji from the mountain’s peak.

Elements of Tradition

As an important satellite temple, Kakurinbo has accommodated visiting priests and pilgrims for over 550 years. Today, Kakurinbo offers a place of relaxation for tourists and worshipers alike while maintaining a traditional environment in which guests may enjoy local cuisine and cultural experiences. Visitors to Minobusan can also choose to stay at

Feds table bill to tackle travel chaos as summer season ramps up – National

The federal government moved this week to bolster accountability at airports, introducing new legislation that would compel them to cough up more information on their performance.

Tabled in the House of Commons on Tuesday, the bill paved the way for new rules requiring airports and other airport operators to create service standards and publish data that can be compared against those benchmarks.

The standards could track outcomes ranging from security screening wait times to how long it takes luggage to reach the carousel.

“It’s no secret that the challenges of the last few years have impacted transportation systems here in Canada and globally. As we head into another busy travel season, we have seen how a disruption at one end of the system can have effects across the entire network,” Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said in a release.
