9 Safety Tips for Women Traveling Alone

Hey, ladies! Planning on striking out on your own and experiencing the world? Amazing! Trust me, there’s nothing like solo travel to meet new people and live life on your terms. But, let’s face it, safety is always a concern. That’s why we’ve got some tips for you to keep secure on your journey. Don’t let fear hold you back – grab your backpack, hit the road, and don’t forget to read our safety tips below (they’re pretty useful for everyone, tbh).

Be a Local, Not a Tourist

Looking like a tourist can make you a prime target for pickpockets and thieves. Try to blend in by dressing like you live there and avoid standing in the middle of the street with a map. This will make it less obvious that you’re a tourist, and you’ll be less likely to attract unwanted attention.

Travel Agent Month roundup: discounts, prizes, contests & more!

The travel industry is giving travel advisors around the world a collective applause today (May 3) to mark Travel Agent Day, an annual day of recognition that takes place on the first Wednesday of May.

Travel Agent Day was founded by Colleen Lorenzen of Uniglobe Carefree Travel in Saskatoon, Sask, in 2011. (Click here to join the official Facebook page).

Since then, the day has evolved into a globally-recognized event, lasting an entire month, bringing together travel pros from all corners of the industry.

Travel advisors and agencies, throughout time, and especially since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, have proven themselves to be a resilient and resourceful force.

Here’s how suppliers and tourism boards are celebrating the travel trade this month.

Agency owner’s message on Travel Agent Day 2023: “The reason we are here and thriving, is our travel advisors”

And while the Travel Agent Day perks are very much appreciated, Jamie Milton with Uniglobe Carefree Travel in Saskatoon, SK, tells Travelweek that just as important, if not more so, are words of appreciation and gratitude from supplier partners.

Especially when those kinds of words are broadcast for all to see via traditional and social media.

“Promotions and incentives are great and very much appreciated by travel advisors,” said Milton. “That being said, the feeling of being appreciated, valued and respected is also important. One of my favorite things to see suppliers do, is promote travel advisors to the general media, and through their own personal social media. Hearing well-known and respected suppliers promote travel advisors and all they do, is very impactful.”

It was at Uniglobe Carefree Travel – and thanks to travel advisor Colleen Lorenzen – that Travel Agent Day got its start back in 2011. On the

Koh Yao Noi – The Off-Beaten-Path Island in Thailand

Koh Yao Noi (“Little Long Island”) is a small island in Phang Nga Bay in the proximity of its bigger sister, Koh Yao Yai (meaning “Big Long Island”). This small piece of land surrounded by the Andaman Sea is definitely less known than islands such as Koh Lanta, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and the Koh Phi Phi archipelago, not to mention Phuket.

On this quiet and peaceful piece of land, you won’t go clubbing, there is no loud music and crowds of farangs. If this is what you’re looking for, I invite you to get to know Koh Yao Noi – a Thai island definitely off the beaten track.

Of course, as we’re talking about the island, the only option to get there is by longboat or speedboat. When buying a ticket at the port from which you depart, find out which

BBB tips on finding the right travel agent

INDIANAPOLIS – If you’re like me, you might think you have no need for a travel agent.

Why pay someone to make plans and arrangements you can handle yourself? To some extent, I still feel that way when it comes to simple road trip family vacations.

However, my opinion changed the first time our family embarked on our first Disney World adventure with our two kids. Our agent, who happens to be a friend of my wife, made all the difference in the world when it came to getting the most out of our time at the Disney parks in Orlando. I hadn’t been to Disney World since I was a kid myself, so the experience of planning the trip from a parent’s perspective was a humbling one. Our agents definitely provided insight and valuable information we otherwise wouldn’t have had.

Why Booking Holdings Stock Sailed 34% Higher During the First Half of the Year

What happened

Shares of online travel agents Booking Holdings (BKNG 3.49%) rallied 34% over the course of the first six months of 2023, according to numbers from S&P Global Market Intelligence. The big gain reflects a post-pandemic recovery in demand for leisure travel.

So what

Most investors knew it would happen sooner or later. By and large, though, most investors didn’t expect leisure travel demand to bounce back as well as it has this soon.

The latest layer of evidence to this end surfaced earlier this month. Using numbers supplied by the US Transportation Security Administration, Barron’s reports that Friday, June 30 was the nation’s busiest-ever day for domestic air travel, with nearly 2.9 million people boarding a plane somewhere in the United States.

It’s not just airlines seeing unprecedented demand, however. Carnival Corp. reports the total number of cruise reservations made during its recently ended second fiscal quarter
