Iran said to target Israeli businessmen, Chabad House, hotels in Cyprus terror plot

The targets in an Iranian-planned attack in Cyprus included an Israeli real estate businessman and a Chabad House, as well as hotels and entertainment venues frequented by Israeli tourists, Channel 12 reported Monday.

The report named the alleged targets, citing “the investigation” as its source for the information. It did not name the businessman.

Channel 12 also said that in recent days, Greek intelligence services were arrested by seven Pakistani nationals who were recruited by Iran to carry out attacks in the country.

It was not clarified if they were also linked to the Cyprus plot.

The leader of the cell reportedly escaped and an international warrant was issued for his arrest.

The $600-a-night Rancho Pescadero Hotel in the seaside village of El Pescadero closed Sunday, a spokesperson for the Hyatt property confirmed to The Times on Thursday. But a statement from the hotel says that Hyatt “together with the hotel’s owners … is conducting an extensive, independent investigation of the incident led by a third party.”

The team at LNG Energy wants hotel guests around the country to have a full charge in the morning — and in this case, that means a lot more than getting a good night’s sleep.

The company, which specializes in electric vehicle (EV) charging tech, is working to put charge stations at more than 13,000 hotels around the country in the next half-decade, according to Electrek.

It’s part of the Boston-based company’s plan to offer EV power-up options for up to 15% of the US hospitality market. The project starts with Marriott and Hilton hotels in Ohio, Florida, and Illinois, Electrek reports.

Newport Beach couple found dead in Mexico hotel room

A Newport Beach couple was found dead inside of their hotel room at a resort in Baja California Sur, Mexico, according to Mexican police.

Police said the deaths occurred in the community of El Pescadero on Tuesday at the Hotel Rancho Pescadero, which is owned by Hyatt. The town is located between Todos Santos and the resort of Los Cabos.

The police said that paramedics were called to the hotel Tuesday when the couple was found unconscious in their hotel room. By the time they arrived, both were already dead.

Family members have identified one of the deceased as 28-year-old Abby Lutz, who was staying in the area with her boyfriend, 41-year-old John Heathco, who both had planned to meet up with her dad on Sunday for Father’s Day .

Hotel strike: Southern California hotel workers authorize a strike that could begin July 4th weekend if a deal isn’t reached

The largest hospitality union in Southern California has approved a strike for more than 15,000 workers that could begin in early July if an agreement isn’t reached on increased pay and other benefits.

Unite Here Local 11 – the union representing room attendants, cooks, dishwashers and front desk agents among other workers – voted Friday on authorizing the strike with a 96% approval. The group claimed the strike would mark “the largest hotel worker strike in modern US industry.”

The union is asking for a $5-dollar hourly wage increase, affordable family healthcare, a pension that will enable workers to retire with security, and a safe, humane workload, according to a union news release.

The upscale Trade Hotel has opened in the Deer District, part of the ongoing development of the entertainment district around the Fiserv Forum.

The nine-story hotel was built at 420 W. Juneau Ave. just north of Fiserv Forum, in the former Park East Freeway strip. The hotel includes 207 rooms and about two dozen suites.

The hotel caters to people seeking a luxury experience, but also has three restaurants that could serve as a place for anyone to meet up before going to a Bucks game, concert or out in the Deer District, said general manager Rich Lundt.
