Broome County hotels have been contacted for migrant relocation, the sheriff says

VESTAL (WBNG) — The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced at least two hotels had been contacted by a New York City-based organization about the possibility of housing migrants.

The sheriff’s office said the Vestal hotels, the Quality Inn and Comfort Suites, were reached out to on May 9. That’s just two days before Broome County Executive Jason Garnar declared a State of Emergency based on the suspicion New York City would send asylum seekers upstate .

Garner’s State of Emergency, which states Broome County cannot sustain any number of migrants, includes an emergency order that prohibits outside entities from making contracts with Broome County dwellings about housing asylum seekers.

The sheriff’s office said the two hotels were asked to reserve blocks of at least 40 rooms for six to 12 months under a government rate for individuals the representatives identified as migrants. Management at both hotels declined the offers.

A standoff with a man armed with weapons inside a south London hotel room ended peacefully Wednesday morning.

Police at the Days Inn on Wellington Road South said the situation was resolved at around 6 am ET after a night of negotiations. No one was injured and no one was taken into custody, an officer at the scene said.

The standoff forced the closure Tuesday afternoon of Wellington Road between Bradley and Dearness Drive. The road reopened Wednesday morning.

“The information we have is that he’s got some weapons,” Const. Joel Davis told CBC News early Wednesday morning. “When we started interacting with him last night we had concerns for his safety, so we’ve been negotiating with him throughout the night.”

Today, we will share with you the wineries that have brought us and all of our clients who have visited such joy through the years. We will hear from the winemaker himself as he shares a special message with our Passion for Italy Travel

In Italy, connect with the locals, how to interact with locals in Italy

I read about a young man who had learned six different languages, so he could easily travel and meet and talk to the locals. He said he has made his life so much more interesting. Traveling really is about the people, the language, the food and yes of course, beautiful places and beautiful scenery.

But what to use is this if the people are grumpy there and make you feel bad too. Or if you are grumpy…..! One always remembers a place for the wonderful service, the fantastic food or the endearing things that people do. Maybe it also has something to do with your mood – if you are exhausted, feeling lonely, arguing with your travel companion or missing your children then that place will not be remembered as being good. Living in a place is also so different to visiting for a day of course.
