Migrant workers in Oman are constructing a new luxury “city” that includes a Trump-branded hotel.
They are laboring in extreme heat for as little as $340 a month, The New York Times reported.
Trump’s ties to the project, backed by a Saudi real estate company, have been criticized by watchdogs.

Hotel strike: Southern California hotel workers authorize a strike that could begin July 4th weekend if a deal isn’t reached

The largest hospitality union in Southern California has approved a strike for more than 15,000 workers that could begin in early July if an agreement isn’t reached on increased pay and other benefits.

Unite Here Local 11 – the union representing room attendants, cooks, dishwashers and front desk agents among other workers – voted Friday on authorizing the strike with a 96% approval. The group claimed the strike would mark “the largest hotel worker strike in modern US industry.”

The union is asking for a $5-dollar hourly wage increase, affordable family healthcare, a pension that will enable workers to retire with security, and a safe, humane workload, according to a union news release.

Despite the lack of permanent shelter, homeless people in Gander were evicted from hotel rooms

With tourism season around the corner, Gander’s homeless population will soon have to find a new place to live.

The province uses the town’s hotels for emergency shelter situations over the winter. But with an expected influx of visitors in the area over the next few months, hotels are taking back their rooms.

Kim Beers, chair of the Gander Housing and Homeless Hub, said people who don’t have homes of their own have been staying in hotels for years. The practice isn’t sustainable, she said, but there’s nowhere else for them to go.

“We don’t have any kind of emergency shelter at the moment here in Gander,” Beers said.

Dimensional Fund Advisors LP’s holdings in Park Hotels & Resorts were worth $34,293,000 as of its most recent SEC filing.

Treasurer of the State of North Carolina boosted its position in shares of Park Hotels & Resorts by 1.3% in the 4th quarter. The return of Chinese tourists to destinations worldwide will top off a spectacular post-coronavirus global tourism revival this year, according to industry leaders.

Jet makers, airline executives and hotel tycoons at this week’s Qatar Economic Forum spoke of an apparently insatiable demand for travel. Chinese tourists, now unshackled from Covid-19 restrictions, will complete the boom, they said.

“The desire to travel has never been greater and the industry is struggling how to respond to that demand,” said Boeing chairman David Calhoun as he told of the aviation giant’s battle to meet the demand for jets.

Leisure travel has overtaken business as the main reason for taking a plane or booking a room, according to Sebastien Bazin, head of Accor, Europe’s biggest hotel group.
