SC says NCLAT has the right to reject Appu Hotels’ resolution plan

The Supreme Court has ruled an appellate bankruptcy tribunal was right in rejecting Appu Hotels’ resolution plan even as 87.3% of verified financial creditors approved the offer given by MK Rajagopal, the founder of MGM Healthcare.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) rejected Rajagopal’s Rs 423-crore plan on the grounds that it was revised after a majority of lenders voted on it, but the revised plan was not put before lenders for a vote. Secondly, the resolution of the applicant was ineligible under Section 29 (A) of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code — a rule which bars defaulters from acquiring companies.

The division bench observed that while respecting the commercial wisdom of the Committee of Creditors, the NCLAT could not have approved the plan for these two major reasons.

After NCLAT rejected Rajagopal’s plan, the lenders approved a Rs 592-crore offer from the promoter, Periasamy Palani Gounder, in November

A hotel guest alleges he woke up to find the night manager licking his toes

A Nashville hotel guest was sleeping soundly when at 5 am, he woke up to find a man licking his toes. Now, the hotel’s night manager has been arrested, is being accused of sexual assault and is being sued, along with the hotel.

The hotel guest, Peter Brennan, says when he woke up to the disturbing scene he “immediately started yelling,” at the man in his room, who fled.

The suspect has been identified as David Neal, the night manager at the Hilton Downtown Nashville, according to Rocky McElhaney Law Firm, which is representing Brennan.

Brennan told hotel security about the alleged sexual assault but they “did not appear to take his complaint seriously,” the law firm said in a news release. Brennan then called the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, who began investigating the March 30 incident.

Last week, Neal was arrested and charged with burglary in connection to the

Toronto is opening up hotel rooms for 150 asylum seekers after the city received a pledge for $97-million from the federal government toward shelter spaces, but Mayor Olivia Chow said a long-term solution is needed to respond to the “crisis.”

City council unanimously approved a plan Wednesday, brought forward by Ms. Chow, to address the growing need for shelter from refugee claimants arriving in Toronto. The measures approved by the council include spending $6.67-million this year on expanding a rent supplement program for people currently experiencing homelessness that will be matched by the provincial government.

In a joint statement Wednesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Ms. Chow asked

8 Barbie pink hotels for living out your dollhouse fantasy

You’ve heard of Barbie’s DreamHouse, but what about Barbie’s dream hotel?

The highly anticipated, widely marketed, extremely pink “Barbie” movie is sparking a wave of interest in all things rose-colored. Accommodations are no exception.

“There is a desire to go to pink hotels,” said Ron Sandel, general manager of last-minute booking app HotelTonight.

And they’re not just found in an iconic doll’s fantasy land. Pink hotels are generally located in tropical areas; the color was popular in the 1920s and in mid-century design, said Dak Kopec, an architectural psychologist and professor of design at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Kopec said he wouldn’t be surprised to see travelers looking out for pink hotels as Barbie is getting her big moment in the sun.

“There’s so much seriousness and so much frustration in our current society that I think people are looking for these types of escapes,” he said.

Miami-Dade finalizes one new airport hotel project, decides not to pursue another

Miami International Airport will have a new airport hotel soon. But following a contentious vote in Miami-Dade County Commission Tuesday, it may not have a second new one anytime soon.

The County Commission voted to award a contract to build a new airport hotel connected to Terminal D to FDR Miami Hotel LLC, the firm that scored highest during the competitive selection process. Commissioners voted unanimously to award FDR the contract.

FDR’s proposal is projected to bring the county around $240 million in revenue over the course of the 50-year lease. FDR is a joint venture of Miami-based Fontainebleau Development LLC led by Jeffrey Soffer and The Related Companies, which is chaired by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and headquartered in New York.

“Miami’s world-class airport deserves a world-class hotel,” a statement from FDR said after the vote. “We look forward to continued collaboration with the county and airport officials

Singapore Is in the Midst of A Luxury Hotel Boom

“Singapore is Asia for beginners,” says Cher and the Loneliest Elephant director Jonathan Finnigan, “because it’s so safe, it’s so organized, and English is the national language. Everything works, and you’re never going to struggle for good food — there’s almost too much.”

The island urban jungle at the tip of mainland Southeast Asia is a refined mashup of Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures — and flavors — with some Indonesian, Thai and English influences for good measure. The Garden City, as it’s known, is also a newly certified sustainable destination by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s Destination Criteria.

‘[We] can’t wait for what’s next’

The team at LNG Energy wants hotel guests around the country to have a full charge in the morning — and in this case, that means a lot more than getting a good night’s sleep.

The company, which specializes in electric vehicle (EV) charging tech, is working to put charge stations at more than 13,000 hotels around the country in the next half-decade, according to Electrek.

It’s part of the Boston-based company’s plan to offer EV power-up options for up to 15% of the US hospitality market. The project starts with Marriott and Hilton hotels in Ohio, Florida, and Illinois, Electrek reports.

The company boasts a fairly quick charge time. On its website, the JuicePump charging station is said to provide an 80% charge in less than 20 minutes.

The JuicePump is designed for car dealerships that need to charge EVs quickly. The charger is part of a family of

Home Office faces legal action over children missing from UK asylum hotels | Child protection

Placing unaccompanied children in hotels run by the Home Office is “unlawful”, according to a legal action launched after hundreds of youngsters living in them have gone missing.

Launched on Monday by the charity ECPAT UK, the legal action argues that the Home Office has “no authority” to place unaccompanied children in asylum hotels, from where scores have been kidnapped by gangs.

earlier this year the Observers revealed how dozens of asylum-seeking children were abducted by criminals from a single Home Office hotel in Brighton. In total, more than 400 unaccompanied children have gone missing from hotels run by the Home Office. Some are believed to have been trafficked; others, who disappeared from the south coast, have been found as far away as Scotland.

Of those who have disappeared, 154 are still missing according to a parliamentary debate last Thursday, with their whereabouts unknown despite police efforts to locate them.

Tourists visiting the popular Egyptian resort of Hurghada watched a man get eaten alive by a shark just feet away from a crowded beach.
