A Welsh travel platform specializing in group and adventure travel has raised £3 million to enhance its digital tools and onboard more tour operators. Founded in Cardiff during the pandemic and launched in January 2023, TourHub now links travelers with over 15,000 guided experiences from 750 operators across the globe. Since its debut, the company has handled £45 million in bookings, with £23 million of that total coming in the last 12 months—a 40% year-over-year increase. TourHub addresses travelers based in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and Australia, primarily attracting experienced travelers, many of them women in their late 50s, who favor structured yet social trips averaging 11 days in length.
The funding round combines equity from the Development Bank of Wales, Waterspring Ventures, and individual investors with a long-term loan from Finstock Capital. These resources will fund AI-powered search and booking features, expand marketing efforts in its four main markets, and support the company’s goal of reaching 1,000 partners by 2027. TourHub will also create new positions in its IT and marketing teams.
Seamus Conlon, CEO, noted that demand for experiential travel remains robust despite broader industry challenges. “We’re serving travelers in four markets without dependence on any single one,” he stated. “This investment will strengthen our ability to match demand with partners and establish Wales as a hub for modern tourism.”
The company’s leadership team includes Will Waggott, a former TUI chief financial officer, and Darren Evans, a former owner of Leisure Pass Group, alongside Conlon. Their backgrounds reflect a broader industry trend: online platforms like TourHub are digitizing niche travel segments, small-group adventures and themed cultural trips, that traditionally avoided mainstream booking sites.
TourHub targets an aging demographic increasingly drawn to curated itineraries, rather than self-planned trips. With AI tools and a broader operator network in development, the company will simplify both booking and trip management for its core audience.
TourHub’s latest funding follows a year of accelerating sales, solidifying its role in the digital shift of specialized travel. The £3 million will support technical improvements and marketing initiatives.
