Average cost of travel insurance

Next time you’re booking travel, it may be tempting to skip purchasing a travel insurance policy to cut corners and save some money. But saving a little now could actually end up costing you more later — if you lose your baggage, need to cancel your trip, or encounter unexpected medical costs while traveling.

According to Bankrate’s 2022 Travel Woes survey, “79% of travelers who have taken an overnight trip outside their local area this year experienced at least one travel-related issue.” Having travel insurance in place can keep these minor issues from turning into major, trip-ruining disasters.

Can you get compensation if your flight is delayed? Not always.

Welcome to Cruising Altitude, a new column at USA TODAY focusing on travel trends.

While reporting on United Airlines’ recent operational struggles, one person I spoke to told me he looked at the Department of Transportation dashboard and found that the airline wasn’t following its own delay and cancellation policies.

On its face, that seemed true: United was offering travelers extra flexibility to rebook their tickets at no extra cost, but none of the stuck passengers I spoke to said anything about being offered hotel or meal vouchers.

Here’s the thing though: The source who was looking at the dashboard didn’t quite have it right.

United Airlines is committed to rebooking passengers on United or other partner airlines at no additional cost and to provide hotel and meal vouchers and ground transportation in the event of significant controllable delays or cancellations, but the disruptions last week were considered out of

TravelInsurance.com provides tips for how travelers can protect their trip costs during the summer hurricane season

NEW YORK, June 20, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Hurricane season is underway and just off the Gulf of Mexico, Tropical Storm Arlene has become the first named storm of the season. With the summer travel season picking up across the country, TravelInsurance.com is taking the time to remind travelers the importance of protecting their trip costs.

The hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30, and while the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasters are predicting a “near-normal” hurricane season in the Atlantic, they still estimate 12 to 17 total named storms with winds of 39 mph or higher, including 1 to 4 major hurricanes with winds of 111 mph or higher.

This 2-Second Travel Mistake Cost Me Hundreds of Dollars

It’s every traveler’s nightmare. You’re standing in line for immigration after a flight as you head out or return from a trip. You check for your passport. It isn’t there. Trying not to panic, you check your pockets. You empty your bag. Still no passport. After much searching, you realize you must have left it on the plane.

It takes two seconds to check around your seat before you get off an airplane. Look in the back pocket of the seat in front of you, and see if there’s anything on the floor. It’s all too easy to drop your wallet, passport, or other travel documents during the flight. And, as I discovered the hard way, that quick check can save you a lot of time and money.

What to do if your passport is lost or stolen

There are many ways you can lose your passport while traveling. If,

She had travel insurance but injured BC woman still left with a $50K bill

A BC woman is suing an insurance company after she was handed a massive medical bill following her vacation last year.

According to the lawsuit, Chuan Chao was in Texas when he tripped and fell on a sidewalk. The retiree from Surrey was left with severe injuries when he fractured his femur and required surgery in a Houston hospital.

Unlike some other travel horror stories, Chao was prepared for the worst-case outcome and had purchased medical insurance ahead of her trip. She bought it for coverage for her trip through the Pacific Blue Cross and was covered from June 4 to July 2, when she was set to return home.

However, after her surgery, she could not walk and was advised by an orthopedic surgeon that, as a result, “she could not travel.”

Not only that, while she was released from the hospital two days after being injured, she also

Travel Insurance for a Singapore Vacation (2023)

As of February 2023, Singapore has eased up on COVID-19-related travel insurance requirements. Visitors are no longer required to obtain travel insurance before entering the country, but the government still highly recommends it.

In case things go wrong, having travel insurance coverage can provide an added layer of security. A comprehensive travel insurance plan may cover emergency medical expenses and assistance, lost or delayed baggage, unexpected trip cancellations and flight delays.

Singapore is known for outdoor adventure activities like kayaking, scuba diving and hiking — and travel insurance can offer peace of mind when you’re exploring the great outdoors. Most plans include emergency medical coverage if you sustain injuries while traveling, and some policies offer protection for sporting gear.

But every traveler is unique and will require different coverage. Whether you’re an adventure aficionado or a business traveler, there’s an insurance plan that’s right for you. Here are the most
