Flair Airlines Opens First Nonstop Canada-Guanajuato Route

Flair Airlines launched a nonstop service linking Canada and the Mexican state of Guanajuato, creating the first direct connection to the Bajío region. The inaugural flight left Vancouver International Airport (YVR) over the weekend, giving Canadian travelers immediate access to Guanajuato International Airport (BJX).

The new service opens convenient travel to León, San Miguel de Allende, and nearby towns celebrated for their cultural festivals and culinary specialties. San Miguel de Allende earned the title of world’s best city from Travel + Leisure in 2026, marking its third consecutive year at the top of that list.

“Flair looks for opportunities to connect Canadians to places that haven’t been well served, and the Bajío is a great example,” explained CEO Len Corrado. “This route gives Canadians their first nonstop connection to an important region of Mexico, opening up León, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and beyond. We’re making it easier and more affordable for Canadians to experience a different part of Mexico, while creating a new connection between the two countries.”

Economic Impact and Tourism Potential

Jessica Paola Olivo Moreno, director of Guanajuato International Airport, called the launch an important milestone for regional connectivity. She noted that the airport has been recognized as the best in Latin America and the Caribbean for handling two to five million passengers by ACI for three straight years.

Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo said the new link between Vancouver and Guanajuato opens a fresh gateway for the province’s people and destinations. She added, “Every new route means more visitors, more opportunities for our communities, and a stronger Guanajuato that is increasingly connected to the world.”

Russell Atkinson, Director of Air Service Development at Vancouver International Airport, observed that the addition strengthens YVR’s role as a gateway for Western Canadians and supports cultural exchange. “Every new nonstop route makes YVR a stronger gateway for the communities we serve,” he remarked.

The airline operates weekly nonstop flights between Vancouver and Guanajuato, with one-way base fares beginning at $184 from YVR to BJX and $176 in the opposite direction. The carrier, which describes itself as Canada’s leading value airline, reaches more than 25 cities across North America and the Caribbean using fuel-efficient Boeing 737 aircraft.
